Reveal the inner beauty of gorgeous stone!

Italian AlabasterJune 17-22, 2007 and July 20-21 ~ A full week plus two bonus days!

Marcia Perry's Ark Gallery
Saugatuck, Michigan Tel: 269-857-4210

Spend a week learning how to turn stone into beautiful art. It's really not "hard" when you know which tools to use and how they work best. This is a rare chance to learn from not one, but three experienced sculptor/instructors therefore three different approaches to “seeing”, working and teaching.

In one intensive week-long class, participants will experience the delights of shaping stone in an idyllic outdoor studio environment in one of America's prettiest resort towns. Emphasis will be on learning the traditional start-to-finish techniques and tools –used since Michelangelo's day!–for carving alabaster, limestone or even marble. No experience is required; those who have worked stone before, will also benefit from the expertise of these three accomplished instructors.

Workshop Schedule:

Tuition Cost: $480 plus the cost of whichever stone you choose. (Stone runs $1-3 per pound or you can bring your own.)

Snacks and catered lunches will be provided.

Class size is limited to 20.

Payment plans available. Contact Marcia (phone: 269-857-4210 or email: ) about available scholarships or any other questions.

Instructors:

Lisa WolffLisa Ruttan Wolff began her stone carving career as an apprentice to Atlanta sculptor Barbara Rheingrover in 1991. After attending many professional workshops she began passing on her enthusiasm and knowledge to others. Her artwork can be found in private collections nationwide. Lisa has created public sculpture, too, most memorably a large marble sculpture commemorating the 50th anniversary of Norris, Tennessee.

Kathy SlocumKathy Slocum caught the "Stone Bug" (after 26 years as a professional potter!) from Lisa. Study at the renowned Arrowmount School of Arts and Crafts and Limestone Carving Symposia in the quarries of Indiana led to her becoming an artist-in-residence for the Tennessee public schools for the past six years. Kathy is a member of the Knoxville Arts and Cultural Alliance. She favors animal subjects and natural forms in her splendid sculptural art.

Marcia PerryMarcia Perry is best known for her tree sculpting, but likes stone because ”it speaks with a different voice and is quicker and easier than wood!” Marcia’s award-winning work is prized by collectors around the world. She is a popular speaker and teacher and has published several books. She opened her Ark Gallery in 1991 to showcase sculpture and other neglected art forms.
